At Simply Grazin’ farms we perform cattle drives to move a herd of our cattle from one pasture to another, and we do so with the help of our farm horses.
Moving the cattle to different pastures helps with our crop rotation as well as with keeping the cattle happy.
The cattle drives featured in the YouTube video below were done on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at our Fort Ann, NY Farm 3.
Our crew for the day consisted of Nick, Kylah, Daniel, Matt and Mark on our farm horses Goose, Smokey, Jack, Autumn and Hickory. Together on their horses our crew moved two different herds, each with about 100 cattle.
Prior to the drive our crew checked fences and readied the horses.
Communication among crew members is a key component to a successful cattle drive.
All our cattle quickly settled into their new grazing location.
