We happily donated a pig to the Hartford Central School‘s 6th grade class for their annual pig roast/auction which was held on Friday, November 15, and according to the event organizer, Mrs. Suszyne Burch, it was another huge success!
“We raised over $2000.00 this year (about the running average compared to other years). The cost was able to be kept at $7/person or $35.00/family of 6 due to the donation of the pig from Simply Grazin’ and the labor of cooking the pig from Burch Family Farm. This is a huge burden off of the 6th graders and allows for more families to attend! Perry’s potatoes from Hampton, NY also donated the majority of the potatoes for this event.”- Mrs. Burch
In addition to these donations, the 6th grade class received just over 40 items to be auctioned off in a silent auction. These items ranged from gift certificates to local restaurants and stores, jewelry, Telescope beach chairs, honey, tools, and more.
“Between the pig roast and auction, this event allows every student to be included no matter what. Students can either get items donated for the pig roast or auction, help sell tickets, or help prepare and serve the meal, set up for the event, or clean up after it is all said and done.
I look forward to this busy event every year! It always amazes me how successful the students are with this event, but it could never be possible without the parents and local businesses behind it to make it so successful! In addition, I am so lucky to work with a few ladies who help me every year with this. Mrs. Sutliff, Ms. Stewart, and Ms. Dwyer volunteer their time every year to help out with this huge event. I also have to say thanks to our janitorial staff and cafeteria ladies for being so helpful and supportive with this, especially Mrs. Beecher and Mrs. Ward who helped with serving the food and cleaning up afterward. Our new principal, Mrs. DuPuis, also came to support this event as well.” – Mrs. Burch
Congratulations on a job well done Hartford Central School 6th graders! We were thrilled to hear your hard work for this event equated to great success!
